Okay....I couldn't help myself. I HAD to use the Rustoleum Frosted Glass Spray Paint on something else. Remember? Yesterday, I used it to frost the oval window in my powder room so neighbors walking by couldn't peek in and see us on the loo. I loved the way that project turned out so I tried it for the sliding glass door in our morning room. I like the result but it turn out quite as well....for several reasons that I'll get to. Anyway, here's what I did:
#1. I taped the glass door up with the pattern I wanted. (Tip: Use a tape measure and pencil to mark your evenly spaced lines).

#2. After you've taped your lines, use paper to cover the areas that you want to remain unfrosted. (Tip: Make sure your painter's tape lines are tightly pressed down. Use a credit card to firmly secure them.)
#3. Shake the can vigorously for 2 minutes and then start spraying! (Tip: Don't forget to clean the window.... like I did!!! I think it may be the reason for some of my drips. You'll see what I mean later on). Oh yeah, wear a mask. This paint will knock you out from the smell. Open the windows, too, and turn on the ceiling fans!
#4. Spray thin coats. I did 4 coats, letting each dry for 10 minutes between coats. (See the pics below. I still had several ugly drips. I think it was because I didn't clean the window so the paint just ran down the areas that were dirty instead of adhering. Also, I may have sprayed too much in one spot. Don't do this!)
#5. All in all, I really like the finished look...drips and all. I like being able to see what's on our deck, allowing sunlight into our beautiful morning room and allowing the kids and dog to be able to see out the glass door but still having privacy from the neighbors.
BTW, please forgive me for the torn screen in the door. The previous owner's dog is to blame. We just haven't had a chance to fix it yet. Between moving, painting and all of my crazy projects, who has time to fix a screen door?!
What do you think of the frosted sliding glass door? Let me know in the comments below.
